Sunflower Watercolor

Sunflower watercolor

A little sunshine your way today with a cheerful Sunflower painting.

I worked on painting a Sunflower based on an exercise in Jean Haines beautiful watercolor book, Paint Yourself Calm. I love her loose style of painting and the vibrant colors she uses in her work. This book is full exercises to help you relax, explore color, and reduce stress through painting.

Sunflowers just make me smile. The bright yellow makes me happy. πŸ™‚

In this exercise the petals are painted by pulling color toward the center of the flower. The salt technique is used on the center of the flower and plastic wrap is used on the petals. Both techniques are fun and create some interesting results.

It was vey exciting the next day after the salt was dusted off and the plastic wrap removed. Then just a little touch up and this happy sunflower was finished.
