Watercolor practice – painting plants

Succulent watercolor painting

A little sketching and painting practice to share with you today.

Happy Sunday, friends! 😊

little violets watercolor painting

A loose and simple painting without any sketching first. I like how the pretty little violets and soft leaves turned out. The container needs more work but it was a good practice. Instead of trying to fuss with it, I just let go and moved on. Things are not always going to work out and that’s ok. If I’m learning and having fun, I call that a win.

little plants - ink sketching

A few quick ink sketches from my imagination. A little practice trying to focus on different shapes of plants and containers.

little cactus watercolor painting

I like the softness of this painting and the beautiful results from the wet on wet color mixing on the cactus. The container turned out much better in this painting as well.

Succulent Blues – 12 x 18 inch watercolor

Oh, this one makes me happy… πŸ’š

I used a limited watercolor palette of Indigo, Cascade Green, and Burnt Sienna

A direct watercolor with a big number 12 round brush. The inspiration for this painting was one of my little ink sketches above. I love how one piece of art can lead to another.

This painting came together rather quickly. I am so happy that I was able to walk away without overworking it. yay!Β Sometimes the hardest part is knowing when to stop.

IΒ  hope you enjoy seeing my work and are inspired to do what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!
