It’s time for another little peek into my sketchbook. Hope you enjoy. π
All of the sketches I’m sharing today were done in ink with no pencil first. This way when a mistake happens I have to ride with it, there’s no going back, only forward.
Happy Thursday, friends!Β π
A quick sketch of poppies. Trying to keep the petals delicate by not overworking with too many lines.
In this sketch I was just playing with ideas and different shapes. I tried to keep it fun and didn’t worry about adding detail. I think allowing things to just flow onto the paper without overthinking is a good way to explore ideas and find your creative voice.
This sketch didn’t get much love on InstagramΒ and that’s ok. To me it’s playful and just makes me happy. After I was finished sketching this one, it lifted my mood the entire evening. I call that a big win. π
I started this sketch and got a little bored with it. I think I may go back to it and doodle the leaves or something, that might be fun. I can see that it will need some white gel pen highlights in the center of each flower. Hopefully I can save them.
A bigger drawing this time trying to include more floral shapes and include flowers from different angles.
I have a great book by Peggy Dean that I highly recommend for learning how to draw flowers and leaves,Β Β Botanical Line Drawing. This book has 200 simple step by step examples of how to draw flowers, leaves, cacti, succulents, and many things found in nature. It is awesome!!Β Β πΏπ·Β π
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.
Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Really enjoyed seeing your terrific sketches, Patty Anne, and hearing about your thoughts during the making of them. That you have the skill and talent to create botanical life on a flat piece of paper is astounding to me.

Good morning Patty Anne, your botanical line art is beautiful. I like how you compose your groupings of flowers together. These would make great embroidary designs.

Instagram has been quiet these last few days I think. As someone motivated by those little hearts it can be so disheartening not not get many. I think your drawings are so lovely and really well composed. I have often looked at the Peggy Dean books and wondered….. May have to put on my Amazon wish list for when I’m next feeling in need of some retail therapy π
