Lovely Summer Flowers
Today I have a some summer flowers to share with you. All photos were taken with my iPhone. I love this time of year and always look forward to these pretty views in my yard.

Right outside my door in the evening. This just makes my heart sing!

Oh that golden yellow color. π

Hello beautiful!

I was so excited when these pink beauties bloomed. I’m so glad I was able to enjoy them a few days and got a few nice photos when I did. I expected them to be around a while with all those buds waiting to open.
Unfortunately we had some visitors stop by and eat all of the pink lilies. Looks like I’m going to have to move them closer to the house. I think that will keep them safer from deer and other critters.
What’s blooming in your garden?
Until next time, share a smile and shine on.

Butterflies and Blooms
I’ve been thinking about butterflies lately and needing some happy, so here we go…
Happy Sunday, friends! π¦
I filled a page in my sketchbook with a variety of butterfly doodles.
Then I moved on to watercolor and played for a while. I just love those blues and purples.
A larger painting of blooms and butterflies came together. The watercolor painting was first and then later ink sketching was added on top. The painting was a guide and inspiration for the botanical sketch. I really enjoy the watercolor and ink combination.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.
Until next time, take care and be well.

Dogwood inspired watercolor
Today I have a watercolor inspired by the flowering Dogwood tree in my yard.
Happy Thursday, friends! π
7 x 10 inch watercolor under painting
I started with a painting of pretty petals and leaves. No details needed at this point, that will come later with the ink sketching. The loose watercolor provides a nice base for the ink sketch.
I love that peachy pink, as I’ve said before I have a serious #colorcrush on that combination. π
A little sketching with a Sepia micron pen provides the needed floral detail.
I like that the fine tip Sepia doesn’t overpower this piece. I also used a white gel pen for just a few highlights here and there.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.
Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

It started with a sketch
It all started with a sketch. I enjoy sitting down with my sketchbook and playing with floral designs.
Happy Sunday friends! π
I decided to work on a painting inspired by my floral sketch.
My first watercolor wash, a light layer of petals and leaves.
I continued on with a few more layers of color making sure each was dry before starting the next. The key is that each layer of color added gets a little darker.
Transparent petals and leaves completed.
The flowers are much larger than in the sketch but I like that. πΈ
I had so much fun with the first painting that later in the week I gave it another try.
This painting has a few more flowers and transparent leaves. I like how the overlapping leaves create movement and interest. Pink and green together is a favorite of mine so I stayed with that combination. This second painting has a playfulness that makes me happy.
It was fun using my sketch as a guide and letting each painting take me where it wanted to go. I hope you enjoyed seeing my work and that my flowers brighten your day.
Until next time, share a smile and have a wonderful week.
Happy Painting! π
