Watercolor Birthday Cards

I’ve been painting birthday cards and have a few to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

watercolor card with tape masking

I taped off the center area of my cards (with painters tape).
Then I painted layers of leaves and buds all around the tape.

After pulling off the tape I had a nice framed area in the center for writing a message.

I decided to add a few of my little paper birds and flowers to this card. I like how it balanced out the frame and added some fun.

My dual tipped Tombow brush pens worked great for writing the birthday message. I practiced a while in my sketchbook before deciding on the blue marker (small tip).

I glued few of my paper flowers on this card and then couldn’t resist adding a little bling. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Making and sharing watercolor cards

I have been making more cards with my watercolor cutouts. It’s a joyful process for me and I hope my creations bring you a smile.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

watercolor flowers and leaves

I always start with a few of my painted flowers and leaves. They work quite well for card making.

I add a little ink detail and outline each piece to create a nice shape.ย  It’s amazing the difference a little ink can make.

Tip: When I cut out the watercolor pieces I leave a tiny paper border around the ink outlined shape.

Blank cards with envelopes are easy to find online or in the craft store.

I like the simplicity of a just few pieces on each card.

It’s fun toย  play around with the arrangement using different pieces until I find something I like. Then using a glue stick, I secure the pieces down and place a heavy book on top to add a little pressure.

Tip: Baby wipes are by my side for my hands…. I don’t do sticky very well. ๐Ÿ˜Š

What I love about making and sharing cards using my art is that they are part of me.

A gift from the heart shared with family and friends is a special thing. ๐Ÿ’—

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Always remember that art is for everyone.

Until next time, have a creative week and shine on!

Sparkle Tree watercolor

Another Christmas card painting to share today.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’œ

Christmas tree watercolor before sparkle added

I painted my tree using a 1/2 inch flat brush. I need to remember to pick that brush up more often.ย ๐Ÿ˜Šย I really like the purple and blue together.

Once again, I put my new gold and silver pens to the test…

Painting a few cards

I have a few watercolor cards to share today. I purchased a box of Strathmore cards and decided to paint a few to give away as gifts.

Happy Thursday, friends!ย ๐Ÿ’œ

purple watercolor flowers painted card

For my first card, I started with some “Patty” flowers in my favorite purple #colorcrush.

I decided to not add any ink to this one. I love the softness and didn’t want to lose it.

watercolor under painting

My next card started with a fun under painting as a base for a floral sketch.

A little ink here wakes up my card and adds some fun. This pretty card will hopefully brighten someones day.

Watercolor tip:ย  I used masking tape to hold my card in place while painting and sketching. That allowed me to position my card in a comfortable place and keep it from moving around as I worked.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Making a special birthday card

I have a special project to share with you today.ย

Happy Sunday, friends!ย ๐Ÿ’š

After I watched this SkillShare class by Theodora Gould,ย Watercolour Cut outs,ย I knew I found the perfect gift.

watercolor flowers and leaves

It started with painting some leaves and flowers, loose and simple.

I tried to keep each piece about the same size.

watercolor leaves and berries

A few more little paintings. I made sure to add light and dark areas in each.

Then a little more fun, adding ink detail….

ink details added to watercolor flowers

Hello little flowers!ย ๐Ÿ˜„

Just some simple outlining as well as a few details here and there.

I love how the ink brings them to life.

I wasn’t sure how many pieces I would need and which would look best together. I painted two sheets to be sure I had enough to work with.

The next step was to cut each piece out leaving a little white paper around the edges. I took my time making sure to not damage the little pieces.

I can’t tell you how happy these little pieces made me… ๐Ÿ’œ

floral watercolor card arrangement

On a fresh piece of 6 x 9 inch watercolor paper, I sketched a little vase and then made a slice in the paper to slide the leaves and flowers into.

Once I was happy with the arrangement, I flipped over the card and taped the pieces down.

I glued a fresh piece of paper to the back to clean things up and cover up the taped area.

To finish things off I added a few little embellishments. This little card made my heart sing, I just love how it turned out and was so excited to hand deliver it. ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒฟ

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for following along and sharing this creative journey with me.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on my friends!
