I have a fun watercolor project to share with you today, watercolor gift tags! Handmade gift tags make the perfect addition to any gift.
Hope you are having a wonderful day! 💚
It all starts with a simple design and very small painting. Below I have a few examples.
I divide up the watercolor paper using a pencil and ruler. Then paint some simple designs making sure to leave room at the top and bottom for some lettering.
After the mini paintings dried, I added a little ink detail to each of them using a gold and white pen. I thought the tags with leaves would look better if the leaves were outlined so I used a pen with a very small tip and gave that a try.
Adding lettering is always difficult for me. I decided to use some tape as a guide to help me keep the lettering straight. With a pencil I lightly added the message and then used my gold pen to trace over it. Later I gently erased any pencil marks left behind.
I used a hole punch and added some rustic string to finish them off. A pretty ribbon would look nice too. On a couple of them I got a little fancy and changed the shape of the tag at the top with a little snip of the scissors. I really like how they turned out.
There’s so much you can do with these little tags. I hope you have fun and get creative. I can’t want to use my tags on gifts for loved ones.
I hope you are inspired to create art and have fun. If you make some gift tags, please share with me on Instagram, @pattyanneart. I would love to see your designs.
Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

I’ve been having fun making ornaments and thought you might like to see my process.
Hope you have a wonderful day! 💚
I painted some holiday greenery for this project but you could use any painting for this. I may paint a few little birds next time…and I’m getting excited just thinking about it.
Last year I purchased a bunch of wood slice ornaments for some craft projects. I decided for this project to glue a small part of my painting to the wood. The watercolor paper was rather thick so I ended up using both double sided tape and Elmer’s glue to attach it.
Using my circle template I found a nice area of the painting to cut out for each ornament.
After attaching the painting to the wood ornament, I weighed it down with a couple heavy books for a few hours.
I just love these rustic ornaments, yay! 😊
The pretty green bow adds a sweet touch. I think they will make a nice gift.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Until next time, share a smile and shine on.

I’ve been busy getting ready for the holidays. Yesterday we started decorating and hanging lights at my house. I love all of the beautiful lights everywhere this time of year.
Happy Sunday, friends! ❤️
Last week I painted some holiday lights. After the watercolor dried, I used a pen for some outlining and a little detail.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

I have a little holiday watercolor and ink sketch to share today.
Happy Thursday, friends! 💚
I started out playing with a simple watercolor border of branches, twigs, and berries.
Then I decided it would be fun to add a little ink sketching on top.
I outlined some leaves in ink and added a few more twigs and bits to fill things in.
The ink seems to pull it all together. I always enjoy the final sketching phase and try to play and have fun. I just have to be mindful of when to stop. That’s always the hardest part. 😁
Just one last thing, adding a holiday message… Ok, much better now. 🎄
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.
Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

I painted a few Christmas card recently. I always enjoy these fun little projects.
Happy Thursday, friends! 💚
I started with a few simple paintings. Then decided it might be nice to add a little sparkle with some ink. I found a set of pens in gold, silver, and white online. yay!
Oh, I love these new pens. The gold ink on the Christmas tree adds the perfect little touch.
I’m not sure how many cards I will get painted this year but I’ve decided to not stress about it. I am going to enjoy the process and do what I can.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

A quick post today with a few more #Inktober sketches to share.
Hope you are having a wonderful day, friends! 💚
A sweet little mushroom sketch. I can imagine a little tea party happening here. ☕️🐭
I always love sketching birds. For this little cutie, I tried to limit the lines and make them more deliberate. On the piece of wood, though, I used more lines. I like that contrast in this sketch.
A little ornament sketch. I really like how clean and simple this is. Something about it just makes me smile. I think I will use it for one of my Christmas cards this year. 🎄
I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.
Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Wishing you peace, love, and joy this holiday season.
Thank you for all of the love and encouragement you’ve given me this year.
I will be taking a little blogging break and will be back in early January.
Now I’m off to baking cookies, wrapping presents, and getting ready for holiday parties.
See you next year! ❤️

I made bookmarks last weekend for couple of very special women in my family. Before wrapping them up I thought I would share them with you.
Happy Thursday, friends! 😊
It started with a 6 x 9 inch painting of transparent flowers.
After it dried, I cut my painting in half and trimmed each bookmark to a nice size.
Then I punched a hole in the top of each bookmark and added a bright green ribbon.
Oh I love that color, it looks so pretty with my painted bookmarks. 💚
I enjoyed making these gifts and hope they will be loved.
Until next time, share a smile and shine on.
Happy Painting!

A colorful post today with a few bright Christmas trees! 🎄
Happy Sunday, friends! 😊
A fun little tree that I painted a few weeks ago after watching a Jennifer Branch video online. Bright colors + splashy paint = lots of fun!
Another joyful tree with a different color palette.
This felt like the right post for today since I will be busy pulling out the decorations and getting my house ready for Christmas.
I hope you are inspired to create art and do what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.
Happy Painting!
