Potted Flowers – Collage Art

I had fun working on a collage piece this week. Hope these joyful flowers bring you a smile.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

working on collage idea

I started out playing with an idea using pieces of recycled cards, scrapbook paper, and watercolor paintings.

I arranged my cut shapes to create a few flowers. Then decided on including a flower pot…

For the flower pot, I used a clothing catalog to cut out a few rectangle shapes. I added some pretty gold craft tape for a nice edge on the pot.

A little close up… just love those button centers!

I really enjoy creating with collage and this was a fun piece to put together.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Making Shower Decorations

I have something a little different today… this week I was busy making a few shower decorations. These cute little paper dresses just filled my heart with joy. So today I thought I would mix things up with a little crafty post.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

template of dresses

I wanted to make a wedding dress banner after seeing a few of them on Pinterest.

I played around and sketched a simple dress outline. Then I made a template of the shape using some heavy paper.

paper dresses

For the final paper dresses I used a bright white scrapbook paper that had a little weight and texture.

pretty white fabric for wedding decorations

Ah, pretty iridescent fabric and white tulle for the skirt…

I cut a small square of each material and then hand stitched the top edges together so that it would gather at the waist area of the skirt.

stitching together the skirt

I also glued down some pretty ribbon at the bottom of the skirt which worked well.

To secure the skirt in place, I glued it down and then hand sewed it to the paper dress. After that just a small piece of shiny trim was glued down to finish it off and add a little bling. ๐Ÿ˜„

Now that they are finished, I am not sure if I will make a banner or use them to decorate a few tables. The shower is still months away so I have time to decide. I need to start working on the shower invitation next. More to come on that.ย

Hope you enjoyed seeing my pretty dresses and the reason for my happy dance this week.

Until next time, share a smile and be well.

Watercolor leaves collage

I cut out some leaf shapes from one of my practice paintings and had fun with a simple collage.

Happy Thursday, friends! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Collage Watercolor painting of Leaves

I selected a dark piece of scrapbook paper for the background so that my leaves would stand out. After playing around with the arrangement, I glued down the pieces leaving some space between them.

For this piece I decided to keep things simple and not add any ink or other embellishments. I really like this simple design.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Collage floral bouquet

I put together a floral collage recently and am very excited to share it with you today.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŒบ

collage flowers - cut out shapes

After a Skillshare class by Claire Picard,

Art Collage – Create a Beautiful Paper Rose Bouquet,

I couldn’t wait to get started on my project.

I had some pretty pink scrapbook paper that I used to cut out shapes for my roses. I started by playing around with flower shapes to see what I liked. Then I got pretty excited, I can do this!

A light gray scrapbook paper was a nice contract to the pink flowers so I used that for the background.

Collage floral planning

The leaf shapes that I cut out:

Dark brown leaves – from a Christmas card
Bigger white leaves – from one of my ink sketches
Small light brown leaves – from a paper lunch bag

Once I had a nice design arranged, I took a picture of it so that I could refer back to it as I worked to glue things in place.

One lesson learned is that I will need a different type of glue next time around. Claire used PVA glue. She painted it on each piece and glued things down with ease.

I used a glue stick and it was quite a challenge. I’m not a fan of sticky fingers. ๐Ÿ˜ So that will part of my process will need to change.

Collage floral glued down

I glued down the flowers first and then worked my way out to the leaves.

Next a little ink detail pulled the piece together.

The final touch was using a white pen for additional bouquet filler.

It was so much fun putting this piece together and I love how it turned out. I am excited about the many ways in which I can combine watercolor painting and ink sketching in another creative way.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!
