Practice and Inspiration

Some lovely greens to share with you today. I enjoy painting leaves and had fun with some simple watercolor practice. I’m always so inspired by the beauty we find in nature. Hope you enjoy.

Happy Thursday, friends!ย ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

watercolor leaves practice

Some playing around with different shapes and line thickness.

Painting with a lot of wet paint on the brush and then with less.

I tried some outlining with paint and kind of like that look.

Simple and fun, just trying out different styles and things that I might like to incorporate into a future painting.

More play here, using a few of the elements practiced above. I pushed it a little further creating a little pattern inside the leaves.

One of the best things I found was how relaxed I was while playing. I need to do more of that. ๐Ÿ™‚

green gold magic photo

A little green gold magic for inspiration.

A favorite pic taken a few years ago while on vacation. I am so in love with the bold color and shape of these leaves.

Another photo taken while on vacation. The shape, pattern, and color just pulls me in.ย

lily of the valley beauty photo

This last photo is from my garden last spring.

The flowing green leaves and delicate lily of the valley flowers are always so beautiful. Although blue is my favorite color, I believe green is a close second. ๐Ÿ’š

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Leaves – watercolor and ink

I’ve been sketching and painting leaves again. There is something about leaves that I find very calm and soothing.ย  Hope you enjoy…

Happy Sunday! ๐Ÿ™‚

Watercolor leaves

A fun practice with different shades of green and blue, my favorite colors. I used my Princeton 1/4 inch Dagger brush for these paintings.ย  I love that brush so much!

It was fun to play around with different shapes and just enjoy the painting process. โค

Watercolor Tip: A clean tissue is always handy to have on hand for blotting. I use one when I put down too much color or too much water on the paper. Just remember to be gentle so that you don’t damage the surface of your paper.

Both watercolor paintings are on 6 x 9 inch individual sheets of Bee watercolor paper.

Continuing on with a few ink sketches…

Leaves ink sketch

I love the simplicity of this one. It just feels good.

When I am sketching or doodling, I try not to overthink what I am doing.

If I think about the pen in my hand and the movement of my hand, either the line I am making or going to make, things don’t work out very well for me. It sounds funny but I need a general plan and then I have to be deliberate with the pen and sketch without fear.

Leu Gardens Visit

I recently visited Leu Gardens in Orlando, Florida while on vacation. It was really nice to spend a quiet afternoon in the garden enjoying nature and taking a few photos along the way. I have a few favorites to share with you today. ๐Ÿ™‚

Lavender in the Garden

So many flowers on the property to enjoy and lots of inspiration for future paintings.

The lavender caught my eye in the herb garden. โค

I love how the afternoon sun is shining through the cute little picket fence.

I didn’t note the name of these gorgeous plants but I was lost in the beauty of the day strolling around and having fun with my best friend.

The extraordinary colors, shapes, and textures blew me away…

I am thrilled with how these photos turned out.
