Painting leaves with coffee

This week I decided to try another coffee painting. I have some leaves and vines to share with you today.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚 ☕️

Coffee painting - leaves under painting

Using a #12 Round brush I painted big playful leaf shapes with a light shade of coffee.

After it dried, I used a smaller #6 Round brush and painted some playful vines using a stronger coffee mix.

The coffee used for this painting is a mix of espresso powder (for baking) with a tiny bit water. I should probably try using instant coffee next time around.

Tip: Coffee takes a long time to dry. When layering as I did above, make sure you allow plenty of time for drying. I let the first layer of big leaves dry overnight.

Coffee leaves - painting and ink sketch

I used a Sepia Micron 01 pen to sketch more vines and leaves on top of my coffee painting. Since the leaves were shades of brown, I thought my Sepia pen would work well here.

It is always fun to play and see where the art takes you.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. I started this blog two years ago to share what I love and inspire others. Thank you for following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on! 💚

Peachy Floral ink doodle

Another watercolor and ink doodle to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends! 💗

Peach floral watercolor underpainting

I started with a floral watercolor underpainting.

Colors used:
Peachy pink (Quinacridone rose + Yellow ochre)
Cobalt teal blue
Prussian blue
Sap green

Peachy floral patterns ink and watercolor

Using a micron pen I added floral doodles on top of my painting. I also added a cute little butterfly.  🦋😊  To finish things off I used a white gel pen to add some fun polka dots.

This style is a bit wild and loud. I like that my doodles are spontaneous, but it’s easy to end up with too much noise on the page. I really need to work on that…but I love creating this way.

I will be taking a little blogging break and will be back in a week or so.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on! 💚

Pink floral watercolor & ink

A little more fun with ink and watercolor for you today. This style combines my love of painting with doodle sketching.

Happy Sunday! 😊

pink watercolor underpainting

It starts with a loose watercolor under painting. Big pink flowers and playful leaf shapes.

It doesn’t look like much at this point. The details are saved for the ink work to come.

Pink Party – 12 x 18 inch

For my doodle sketching I used Micron pens .08, .05, and .03 sizes. For a little added sparkle, I used a white gel pen.

I’m always impressed with the difference that a little ink and detail can make. It really wakes up the painting and brings things to life. This one has a lot going on. I love the movement and fun little bits that are scattered everywhere.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Birdie Enhanced

I recently posted a few digital sketches that I made using Procreate. Sharon Mann at Make Art…Magic Happens, mentioned that she likes to import her artwork into Procreate and enhance it with cool effects. I knew I just had to give that a try.  I’m always inspired by Sharon’s beautiful and creative artwork. 💗

Happy Thursday, friends! 😊

I decided that a recent sketch of my birdie in a teacup would be fun to play with.

My original ink sketch before importing it into Procreate.

and then after a few enhancements…

New tail feathers and a sweet little hair accessory added.

Lots of happy color and a fun background added as well.

Wow, what a difference that makes!

Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement, Sharon!  I’m having so much fun learning and playing with Procreate.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.  Until next time, share a smile and shine on!
