An abstract watercolor painting

I started out thinking that I was working on an under painting for an ink sketch. As the painting developed my plan changed. Sometimes you think you are moving in one direction and then you end up in a different place altogether.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’œ

Peace and Joy abstract watercolor painting

I used a large round brush (#12) for this painting and a few of my favorite colors. ๐Ÿ’™

After loading the brush with paint, I started dragging it down the page in random places using the side of the brush (not the tip). I really like the texture this created. Allowing some white of the paper to remain was very important. I continued this way alternating between purple and blue paint.ย

Near the end, I decided the piece needed something more.ย  Ok I thought…maybe a little more color. I selected yellow ochre and was pleased that the addition provided some needed warmth and balance.

This painting was full of fun and experimentation. Although it’s not my usual style,ย  I really enjoyed the process and results. I may try a few more like this in the future.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Christmas Card Collage

I decided to switch things up and try something new. I recently enrolled in a Skillshare class on Collage Art, Collage & Go.ย  For the class project,ย  I thought it would be fun to use some Christmas cards and scrapbook paper that I had on hand.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

Christmas card collage start

I cut out some circle shapes and then cut the circles in half.

After arranging the half circles in rows,ย  I simply glued them down using a glue stick.

Wishing you Peace

After adding a few more small pieces,ย  it was time for a little detail. I cut out the word Peace for the top and added a few ink doodles.

I had a lot of fun putting this collage together and just love all of the little birds. When I finished I noticed the words on the page, Wishing you Peace.ย  I just love that!

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Sparkle Tree watercolor

Another Christmas card painting to share today.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ’œ

Christmas tree watercolor before sparkle added

I painted my tree using a 1/2 inch flat brush. I need to remember to pick that brush up more often.ย ๐Ÿ˜Šย I really like the purple and blue together.

Once again, I put my new gold and silver pens to the test…

Looking back at artwork from last year

I was looking back through my work and found a few pieces from last year that I wanted to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends! ๐Ÿ’š

leaf doodle sketch

As the leaves are falling all around, I thought it was a good time to share this little leaf doodle. I’m not sure why I didn’t post this one last year. ๐Ÿ˜‰

watercolor pinecones

Pinecone trio… A little fun playing with color in this one.

I think some unexpected colors can make things more interesting. ๐Ÿ’™

falling leaves watercolor

Another fall painting from last year. I love the green gold color in these watercolor leaves.

It’s always fun to look back at earlier work. I’m sure today I would make different creative decisions but I still really like theses pieces. I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Neon garden sketch

I have a bright floral sketch to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends!ย  ๐Ÿ’š

tombow brush pens

I recently purchased a set of Tombow dual brush pen markers and have been having fun playing with them. These bright citrus colors grabbed my attention.

I just love how bright and intense they are. There’s nothing shy about these markers. ๐Ÿ˜€

bright floral sketch

Neon Garden – 9 x 12 inch bee mixed media sketchbook

I started with the brush pens first to sketch out the flowers. These flowers seem to be my go to lately. They keep following me around and showing up in many of my pieces.

On top of the bright colors, I used a micron pen to build upon the sketch. I really like the combination of both here. Overlapping and drawing outside the colors is a fun way to create. I think it adds movement and more interest.

Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, sprinkle kindness all around and shine on!

It started with a sketch

It all started with a sketch. I enjoy sitting down with my sketchbook and playing with floral designs.

Happy Sunday friends! ๐Ÿ˜Š

flowers and vines ink sketch

I decided to work on a painting inspired by my floral sketch.

pink flowers and vines first wash

My first watercolor wash, a light layer of petals and leaves.

I continued on with a few more layers of color making sure each was dry before starting the next. The key is that each layer of color added gets a little darker.

pink flowers and vines watercolor

Transparent petals and leaves completed.

The flowers are much larger than in the sketch but I like that. ๐ŸŒธ

I had so much fun with the first painting that later in the week I gave it another try.

transparent pink watercolor flowers

This painting has a few more flowers and transparent leaves. I like how the overlapping leaves create movement and interest. Pink and green together is a favorite of mine so I stayed with that combination. This second painting has a playfulness that makes me happy.

It was fun using my sketch as a guide and letting each painting take me where it wanted to go. I hope you enjoyed seeing my work and that my flowers brighten your day.

Until next time, share a smile and have a wonderful week.

Happy Painting! ๐Ÿ’š

Cheerful Holiday lights

I thought it would be fun to paint some holiday lights. I hope you enjoy this nice pop of color.

Happy Sunday, friends! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Christmas lights watercolor

I painted these lights after watching a fun tutorial by Jennifer Branch,ย Christmas Card, Retro Lights.

A light sketch first then lots of splashy color. Once completely dried, a few ink lines with a micron pen. Not trying for perfection here, just playful and fun.

Do you remember these old school lights?ย They bring back many sweet memories for me. We used to decorate the pines in our yard each year with these big bright lights when my boys were young. I miss those days but cherish the memories…๐ŸŽ„โค๏ธ

I hope you are inspired to create art and do what you love. Until next time, share a smile and have a great week!
