One idea leads to another painting

I have a few wreaths to share with you today. One of those times where one idea leads to another. You never know where it will take you.  😊

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

simple wreath - tombow markers

I was playing with my Tombow watercolor markers and created a little welcome wreath. Just a simple wreath using my Neon markers set.

This little wreath inspired me to try a similar style in watercolor.

welcome wreath - watercolor under painting

A few layers of watercolor and it just didn’t end up the way I hoped it would.

I decided instead of throwing in the towel on this one to add a little ink with my sepia micron pens and see if that would help.

welcome wreath - watercolor and ink

Ink doesn’t always fix everything but it did make me a little happier in the end.

I’m glad I used sepia with this one since it is warm and didn’t overpower the piece.

My advice is to allow yourself to play and have fun. Many times that is where creative ideas surface.  I hope you find time to play and create art.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

I have more #inktober sketching to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends! 💚

ink sketch leaf patterns

A simple pattern of leaves. I went back to an old favorite for this sketch.

little squirrel ink sketch

I’ve been wanting to sketch some animals this month and decided to try a squirrel. This fella ended up with a larger body than planned but I think he’s pretty cute.

rainy day ink sketch

A little rainy day sketch, something a bit different for me. The umbrella needs more work but all in all I can feel the rain.  ☔️😊

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Sunflowers and Inktober

I have sunflowers and ink sketches to share with you today.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚🌻💚

Sunflower bloom photograph

A joyful flower…I just love that sunny smile.

sunflower watercolor painting

A little watercolor practice this week. I’ve been sketching a lot for #Inktober but did find some time to splash around some paint.

I painted my sunflowers in multiple layers building up the color and detail. It always feels good to practice and play.

Wildflowers in ink

Some simple wildflowers sketched for #Inktober2019.

I started in the middle and worked my way out adding flowers and leaves. The vase was added at the very end. I really like how my wildflower bouquet turned out.

ink floral frame

A fun little botanical border in my small sketchbook. I always love drawing leaves and flowers and playing with different designs.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Inktober sketching fun

A quick post today sharing a few recent ink sketches.

Happy Thursday, friends! 💚

Seasons of Change ink sketch

I used Sepia micron pens in this one. Just sketching different types of trees and adding some imaginary fun. This sketch makes me think of changing seasons.

Underwater fun ink sketch

Trying something different with an underwater scene. It was a lot of fun, I think I will try a few more of these.

Simple Flower Doodle ink sketch

I couldn’t get away from flowers for long. 😉  This was a very quick doodle sketch. I might try another one in a larger size later and take my time with it. I ended up some messy lines in this one but I love it anyway.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.  I will be taking a little blogging break and will be back in a week or so.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Warming up for Inktober

I’ve been sketching a lot this week and thinking about #Inktober2019.  It’s hard to believe that October is right around the corner.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

parrot ink sketch - minimal lines

I added to my micron pen stash and have been thinking about a theme for the month.

For this parrot above, I used minimal lines and really like how that worked out. That might be something to work on throughout the month.

playful floral ink sketching

I love to play with botanical doodle sketches. That will definitely be part of my work for the month as well. Having fun and seeing where the sketch takes me…

floral fun ink sketch

Florals alway work their way into my sketchbook and so I’m sure they will continue.

I like the idea of having a theme and think I will go with a combination of playful, floral, and animals. I’m excited see where the pen takes me this year. 😀

I hope you decide to join in on the fun too. You can sketch whatever you like or find the 2019 list of prompts online. I can’t wait to see all of the amazing art that is posted by other artists.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Looking back at a summer bouquet

I have a watercolor and ink floral to share today. Another painting that I set aside waiting for the right time to add a final layer of ink.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

summer watercolor under painting

A soft watercolor with happy colors sets the stage.

Big loose shapes painted on Arches hot press watercolor paper.

summer bouquet watercolor and ink

Hot press watercolor paper is smooth and has a nice surface for ink sketching. This paper works really well for this style of art.

I like the addition of ink for a little detail and unexpected doodles. The doodles are fun and just make me happy.😀 There’s always a little risk when adding ink sketching on top but as long as I don’t overthink things or add too much ink, it usually works out well.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Owl doodle ink sketch

I have a little owl to share with you today.  Hope this silly guy leaves you smiling.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💗

Silly owl zentangle sketch part 1

I thought it would be a hoot to work on a little owl doodle. 😉

A simple owl sketch starts things off and then the fun begins…adding different #zentangle patterns all over.

Silly owl zentangle sketch - part 2

A little more completed here and this fella looks like he is wearing his fancy clothes.

Silly owl zentangle sketch - final

Darkening the eyes made a difference (always important when painting as well).  The addition of a fun pattern on his head worked well. I like how that turned out.

finished this piece a few months ago and set it aside. Recently I pulled it back out and with a fresh eyes decided that this guy needed to make an appearance on my blog. 💚🦉

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Floating away with blue and green

Just like that and I’m back to painting leaves.

Floating and flowing blues and greens, calm and soothing. 😊

Hope your day is wonderful, friends! 🌿💙

watercolor leaves under painting

I started painting using my favorite blues and greens. My plan was floating leaves and vines.

Funny thing happened though, as I was painting I realized that I had the direction of the leaves all wrong. I decided to continue on anyway and just go with it.

Hmm, what to do…

After it dried, I flipped my sketchbook around to see if that would help.

floating leaves watercolor ink sketch

It looked promising so I continued on. Using a #micronpen size 005, I added simple shapes and lines and then it all started to come together.

I’m glad I didn’t give up on this one.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

Coffee Floral painting

A little coffee floral to share with you today.

Hope your day is wonderful, friends! 💚 ☕️

Coffee floral under painting

I used my large round (#14) and small liner brush(#2) for this coffee under painting. I am able to get a lot of variety with these two brushes and I love this combination.

Coffee takes a while to dry, especially the dark thicker areas. I recommend letting the painting dry overnight.

Coffee Floral painting with ink detail

11x 15 inch Coffee Floral

I decided to add some fun with a little doodle sketching like I’ve done in previous watercolor florals. For this painting I used both Micron and Uni-ball deluxe pens.

I’m having more and more fun experimenting and creating coffee art. 😁☕️

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent.

Little birdies this week

I have a couple watercolor birdies to share with you today.  These little cuties were simple and fun. 😊

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

birdie watercolor under painting

A little birdie under painting, wet on wet dropping in different colors. I didn’t sketch anything first, just an oval shape for my bird and a flat oval for the top of the pot below him.

fun little watercolor birdie

I added some ink detail with a few different colored micron pens. Then I sprinkled some joyful feathers, hearts, and flowers all over.

birdie sketching eyes and feathers

I wanted my second bird to be looking up and have a different type of eye. Here I was playing around trying to find a cute shape that I could easily duplicate. I also wanted a few soft feathers and so I worked on that a little bit too.

birdie on a branch watercolor

This little sweetie started off in the same way as the first bird. I decided to change up the colors on this one and to have him surrounded by flowers on a branch.

I tried to keep it soft and so I only added small ink touches. I like how the bird kind of blends into the tree. I kept the detail to a minimum so that it would be a little dreamy.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!
