Watercolor landscape experiments

I have been doing more experimenting with watercolor landscapes. I believe it’s important to allow yourself to just play and see what happens. Even if the results are not what you wish for there is so much to learn from each painting.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💙

blue watercolor trees

I used Daniel Smith watercolors:  Prussian Blue and Payne’s Gray.

These colors really move around nicely on the paper, especially when playing with the wet on wet technique as I was doing here. An important thing to remember is to have fun and let go… no judgement, no overthinking 😊

The light blue tree in the middle and a few of the darker trees up front I am quite happy with. This was a good practice and a nice warm up…

watercolor experiments - blue trees

More play with blues and wet on wet here.

I like the small tree on the left, it’s different and adds interest. The overlapping trees on the right are very interesting too, they seem to pull me in.

Watercolor tip: Some of the branch marks in the larger trees were made with a dry brush moving over damp paint. It pulls up some of the paint and creates a lighter area.

watercolor beach landscape

And finally a beach scene with some calm soothing colors. I really like this one… It takes me back to the beach.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, take care and be well.

Doodle sketching fun this week

I took a break from my usual sketching to try something a little different… And oh what fun I had!

Happy Sunday, friends!  💚

ink sketching practice - faces and hats

I started out trying to sketch some simple faces. Then I thought it would be fun to add a hat. After that I just had to try a pretty dress….

A sweet girl wearing a fancy party dress this time.

This time I added a fun hat and left her hair down. Just a sweet doodle sketch that makes me happy.

Even though #Inktober2019 has come to end I plan on continuing to sketch in my free time. Sketching has been a little difficult for me lately as I have been dealing with some back pain but hopefully that will clear up soon.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

A lovely sketch that makes me think of an invitation or announcement of some kind.

It’s always fun to play and practice in my sketchbook. I hope you enjoyed seeing what I’ve been up to.

Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!
