Thursday sketching and painting

I started with a watercolor underpainting of soft petals and leaves.

Happy Thursday, friends! 💜

watercolor floral underpainting

I used a few micron pens to wake everything up.

Floral ink sketching

A little look into my sketchbook today to see a few recent florals that I’ve been working on.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

floral ink sketch

A little practice trying to compose a pleasing floral design.

Some elements are simple while others are more detailed.

flowers and leaves ink sketch

In this sketch, I tried to add more variation in the size and shape of the flowers and leaves.

Tucking elements behind one another was like putting together a puzzle. Including a few peekaboo flowers here and there was really good practice. 🌸

floral ink sketch

I started this sketch building from the center with flowers and working my way out. Then I filled in the white space with vines and leaves to balance things out. I always like having a few vines at the top waving hello.

I really like this one, it makes me happy. 💚

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Neon garden sketch

I have a bright floral sketch to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends!  💚

tombow brush pens

I recently purchased a set of Tombow dual brush pen markers and have been having fun playing with them. These bright citrus colors grabbed my attention.

I just love how bright and intense they are. There’s nothing shy about these markers. 😀

Neon Garden – 9 x 12 inch bee mixed media sketchbook

I started with the brush pens first to sketch out the flowers. These flowers seem to be my go to lately. They keep following me around and showing up in many of my pieces.

On top of the bright colors, I used a micron pen to build upon the sketch. I really like the combination of both here. Overlapping and drawing outside the colors is a fun way to create. I think it adds movement and more interest.

Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, sprinkle kindness all around and shine on!

A little bit of this and that

Today I have a little bit of this and that to share with you.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💗

sweet little chick sketch

To start off, I have this little cutie from my sketchbook.  I have to say, trying to sketch “cute” took more than a few tries.

ink doodle pattern practice in circles

A little doodle pattern practice. Starting with a bunch of circles on the page and then filling them in with different patterns.

It’s a great way to try out new doodle patterns to see what you like and what needs more practice.

This was a fun exercise from a doodling class I took on Skillshare a few months ago.

Ink sketch - floral

I really like this combination of a sketch with a simple doodle pattern here and there. It’s light and happy.

I used to be caught up in thinking that every sketch had to be realistic and have a lot of detail. I’m finding happiness now without all of that and this sketch is a good reminder.

spring bouquet floral watercolor

Lastly, a Spring bouquet. I thought this post could use a splash of color and this painting from last month seemed like the right choice.

I hope you enjoy seeing my work and are inspired to do more of what you love.

Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, sprinkle kindness all around!  💚

Sweet little Chickadee

Oh how I love sketching and painting little Chickadees. I have a few to share with you today. Hope you enjoy…

Happy Sunday, friends!  😊

chickadee sketch

A few quick pencil sketches to get things going…

chickadee sketch

What I really like about this sketch is the eye, it really stands out and pulls me in.

chickadee watercolor

Soft sweet Chickadee watercolor painting

I lightly sketched my Chickadee on watercolor paper, then used a Micron pen for a tiny bit of definition and a few light lines.

This little guy’s shape got away from me a bit once the watercolor started flowing. He is rounder than I planned but the softness and color blending are very nice.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Until next time, share a smile and sprinkle kindness all around.

I’ll bet you’re probably not surprised to see daisies in my sketchbook.

Daisies always seem to lift my mood. 🌸 💚 🌸

Little vines and flowers in the garden

I like to use mixed media paper and #micronpens for sketching? Do you have any favorite pens or paper that you use?

I hope you enjoyed this little walk through my sketchbook. Thank you for stopping by and following along.

Until next time, share a smile and have a great week!
