Making Shower Decorations

I have something a little different today… this week I was busy making a few shower decorations. These cute little paper dresses just filled my heart with joy. So today I thought I would mix things up with a little crafty post.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💚

template of dresses

I wanted to make a wedding dress banner after seeing a few of them on Pinterest.

I played around and sketched a simple dress outline. Then I made a template of the shape using some heavy paper.

paper dresses

For the final paper dresses I used a bright white scrapbook paper that had a little weight and texture.

pretty white fabric for wedding decorations

Ah, pretty iridescent fabric and white tulle for the skirt…

I cut a small square of each material and then hand stitched the top edges together so that it would gather at the waist area of the skirt.

stitching together the skirt

I also glued down some pretty ribbon at the bottom of the skirt which worked well.

To secure the skirt in place, I glued it down and then hand sewed it to the paper dress. After that just a small piece of shiny trim was glued down to finish it off and add a little bling. 😄

Now that they are finished, I am not sure if I will make a banner or use them to decorate a few tables. The shower is still months away so I have time to decide. I need to start working on the shower invitation next. More to come on that.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my pretty dresses and the reason for my happy dance this week.

Until next time, share a smile and be well.

A special watercolor wreath

I’ve been working on a wedding invitation for a very special couple.

Happy Sunday, friends! 💜

watercolor wedding wreath

My plan was to create a simple and lovely wedding floral. I painted this pretty wreath last week and… my son and his fiancee loved it. yay! 😀

I’m so excited and honored to be working on art for their big day. I was very touched that they wanted to include my art on their invitation. 😊 Since the wedding is next fall, I am going to include more fall like colors in the final piece.

color mixing chart

I pulled out my color mixing chart to find some nice rich fall colors..

sample watercolor mixes

I mixed up burnt orange, burgundy, and other colors that might make some pretty roses.

practice watercolor roses and leaves

A few practice roses and different leaves using some of the sample colors. I still have more work to do but think I’m getting closer.

Hopefully soon I will pull out my favorite Saunders watercolor paper and put together a few more wreaths that they can choose from.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Modern floral watercolor

A modern watercolor floral to share with you today. I hope these bright flowers leave you smiling.

Happy Sunday, friends!  💚

modern watercolor floral

I love the combination of peachy pinks and green together.

My plan was to go with only watercolor this time but after a couple of washes, I realized it needed more.

So, out came the pens and the fun continued… 😉modern watercolor floral

Some outlining and defining starts things off by waking up the big flowers. Then a few vines and little touches for fun are sprinkled throughout.

The added sketching worked well and made this piece feel more alive. I’m very happy with the result. 💗

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. Keep playing and having fun friends. Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Watercolor floral banner

I have some watercolor florals to share with you today.

Hope your day is wonderful, friends! 🌸😊

floral banner watercolor under painting

I decided to paint a floral banner and started out with a loose under painting.

Soft colors and simple leaf shapes make me very happy.

A little ink sketching was added next. I love that the ink brightens up the petals and leaves. It brings everything into focus.

There are so many options with ink sketching. I like to simply outline some of  the shapes that I see and also build up the piece by sketching new elements.

purple patty flowers - watercolor and ink sketch

Next up, I painted a “Patty” flower in the upper corner of my sketchbook. I call it a “Patty” flower because it’s one of my go to flowers. 😉

I love the simple lines and this pretty purple color. 💜

Pretty purple watercolor mix:
