Flowering tree with ink doodles

I just love a flowering tree and today I have one to share with you. 🌼🌸

It started with the simple idea of painting a tree… and so out came the watercolors.

 

A playful tree full of swirls became my under painting. I decided on a rainbow of colors for this one.

When I finished I set the painting aside for a while. I like to think about the sketching a little before diving in. That happens quite often.  😉

 

I started playing with different flower doodles and added with some leaves. I really like the contrast of the loud flowers on top with the quiet playful flowers falling to the ground.

Although this piece is really all about the flowers, I love the color and texture of the tree trunk.

Soft floral watercolor and ink

I had fun playing with another floral watercolor and ink painting this week.

Happy Sunday, friends! 🧡

My under painting was the start. I added some floral shapes using soft colors.

No stressing about the perfect shape here, just looking for a nice variety of petals.

My goal was to stay playful and keep the detail light and fun.

Sometimes I used the ink to build up the underlying watercolor shapes. Other times,  I ignored the shapes and just sketched flowers and buds wherever I wanted.

Snowflake doodles

I had some fun with snowflakes this week.

Happy Thursday, friends! 😊

 

After playing and doodling some fun shapes, I added watercolor.

A little blue and purple combined with playful brushstrokes made some fun snowflake shapes.  💙❄️

This page in my sketchbook just makes me smile.

 

Later I had some fun with my new Tombow markers. Oh, I just love these gorgeous colors!

Holiday lights watercolor

I’ve been busy getting ready for the holidays. Yesterday we started decorating and hanging lights at my house. I love all of the beautiful lights everywhere this time of year.

Last week I painted some holiday lights. After the watercolor dried, I used a pen for some outlining and a little detail.

Doodle sketching fun this week

I took a break from my usual sketching to try something a little different… And oh what fun I had!

I started out trying to sketch some simple faces. Then I thought it would be fun to add a hat. After that I just had to try a pretty dress….

 

A sweet girl wearing a fancy party dress this time.

 

This time I added a fun hat and left her hair down. Just a sweet doodle sketch that makes me happy.

Even though #Inktober2019 has come to end I plan on continuing to sketch in my free time. Sketching has been a little difficult for me lately as I have been dealing with some back pain but hopefully that will clear up soon.

Warming up for Inktober

I’ve been sketching a lot this week and thinking about #Inktober2019.  It’s hard to believe that October is right around the corner.

I added to my micron pen stash and have been thinking about a theme for the month.

For this parrot above, I used minimal lines and really like how that worked out. That might be something to work on throughout the month.

 

 

I love to play with botanical doodle sketches. That will definitely be part of my work for the month as well. Having fun and seeing where the sketch takes me…

 

Florals alway work their way into my sketchbook and so I’m sure they will continue.

I like the idea of having a theme and think I will go with a combination of playful, floral, and animals. I’m excited see where the pen takes me this year. 😀
