Thursday doodle and flow

I have a little walk through of a small Zentangle that I’ve been working on.

Happy Thursday, friends!Β πŸ’œ

I love to doodle and play with different patterns. This time I remembered to take a few progress shots to share with you. So here we go…

Zentangle ink sketch 1

Doodle and flow – part 1

I started from the top filling in a few sections.

Zentangle ink sketch step 2

Doodle and flow – part 2

I love vines and leaves so I added them near the top so that they could float down through the piece.

Doodle and flow – part 3

Darkening the background of a section really pushes the pattern forward.

I tried to mix things up a bit with size and shape. I think a little variety makes the piece more interesting.

I love how calming this type of project is. I am able to just enjoy creating and leave all worries behind. Watching it all come together is always fun for me. It’s like putting together a puzzle.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. I started doodling and playing with Zentangle about a year ago. It is super fun and very easy to do. All you need is a pen and piece of paper, you probably already have that on hand.

Until next time, share a smile and doodle on! πŸ˜„

How to create easy doodle hearts

I worked on some easy doodle hearts this month. IΒ hope you enjoy seeing how it all came together. πŸ’—

Happy Sunday, friends! 😊

Supplies used
Canson 7x 10 inch mix media sketchbook
Pencil
Kneaded eraser
Micron Pens (various size tips)
Small wooden hearts for tracing

Steps to create

1.Β  Trace heart shapes on your page in a design that you like.

I used small wooden hearts from the craft store for tracing and I overlapped many of the shapes.

2.Β  Add random lines to create small sections in each of the hearts.

It’s best if your pencil marks are light so that erasing later will be easy. My dark lines here were difficult to clean up. I don’t think I will make that mistake again…Β  πŸ˜‰

3.Β  In each section, drop in a doodle pattern using a pen.Β There are no rules and no mistakes. You decide what goes where and what size pen you will use.

I have a few books full of zentangle ideas and inspiration. I enjoy selecting which patterns to use and where to place them in my piece. There are lots of resources online where you can find inspiration as well.

4. Continue to fill in more sections. Take your time and enjoy the process.

I usually sit on my bed with a big clip board on my lap to rest my sketch book on while I work. I find it very relaxing to have the television on in the background while I doodle.

For something this large, I will spend a number of evenings working on different sections. I usually limit my time to an hour or so. It is really fun to see it come to life.

I love that doodle sketching is something I can easily pick up and put down. I can work at whatever pace I choose.

5. Final clean up once all sections are filled in

–Β  gently clean up any pencil marks with an eraser
–Β  fill in small lines or areas that need a little more ink
– add a little shading in a few places using a pencil

I love how each piece is so unique and personal. I hope you are inspired to create art and do more of what you love. It is always good to find some time to play.

Until next time, share a smile and doodle on! πŸ˜€

Thursday – Doodle Swirls

A little doodle that I’ve been working on for a few weeks.

Happy Thursday, friends!

ink sketch - doodl swirls

Sometimes its hard to know when to stop.

I wanted to leave enough white space in the swirls and not over do it.

It feels right now, I finally put down the pen.Β  πŸ˜„

I hope you are inspired to create art and do what you love.

Until next time, share a smile and shine on!

Thursday zen – tree doodle

Playing with patterns and shapes, I had fun working on this tree doodle. I took my time and it slowly came together over a few evenings.

Happy Thursday! πŸ’œπŸ˜Š

Using a micron pen, I sketched out a tree and created a bunch of sections to doodle in.

Tree ink doodle - s1

A meditative art with no rules or mistakes. I move forward not worrying about the final result. That feels so good.  ☺️

Next step, filling in more sections and trying out different patterns.

tree ink doodle step 2

I didn’t work from top to bottom or side to side.

I used a few of the same patterns and jumped around in an attempt to spread things out on the tree top.

ink tree - zen doodle

I fell in love with a weave pattern and thought it would provide some texture on the trunk. I like that it seems to guide your eye upward into the tree top. πŸ’š

A little shading at the end to finish up.

Lesson learned, using a pencil for the shading is a good idea. Shading with the micron pen was difficult and caused a few areas to get much darker than desired.

I hope you are inspired to create art and do what you love. Thank you for stopping by and following me on this creative journey.

Happy Painting!
