I have a watercolor and ink floral to share with you today.

Happy Thursday, friends! πŸ’œ

Roses are purple – 11 x 15 Canson watercolor paper

A few weeks ago I painted this watercolor bouquet.

I used my favorite large round #14 and small liner brush on this piece. Some pretty purple and blue flowers I thought would be nice in this painting.

Sometimes I am ready to start right away with ink sketching but that wasn’t the case this time. I waited until I had some quiet time and a basic plan for the sketch.purple roses bouquet watercolor and ink painting

I used a few different waterproof pens with different size tips (05, 01, 005) for this sketch. It’s nice to vary the line weight. Sometimes a thicker line is needed and other times a delicate thin line is ideal. I keep my pens by my side and switch them up as I go.

For this type of sketching, I like to outline some things and ignore others. I think that keeps it more lively and often the things I ignore stay active in the background.

watercolor painting setup

This is view of my watercolor setup. It’s a little messy but I wanted to show you my arrangement. I use a mix of Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith watercolors.

The mixing area is easily cleaned with a wet issue. It looks like I need to take care of that before my next painting. πŸ˜‰

I will be taking a little blogging break but will be back in a week or so.

Until next time, share a smile and stay excellent!

  1. I love your style of painting and I think that it is really cool that you share your the watercolor painting before you do your ink sketching. Sometimes I like one version more than the other and sometimes I like them equally. What a joy too it was to see your working space as it really appears. It seems so unnatural when I see some YouTube videos with a studio space that is totally organized and pristine. My eyes were drawn to your bunny brush holders–so cute and yet so practical.
